5. When things go wrong in class.
5. When things go wrong in class.
Look at the list of things that can go wrong in a
class.
- There was an internal disturbance.
- There was an external disturbance.
- The class went out of control.
- An activity took too long.
- You had extra time.
- An activity did not work.
- An activity was too difficult.
a) Explain how you would
deal with four of these situations.
It is necessary to know what to do in case we face
one to these activies because it is pretty normal since there are many
unpredictable children. If there was an internal disturbance in my classroom, I
would try to keep everybody under control. I mean, an internal disturbance
could be a fight between two classmates. So, it is important to separate them
and stop the fight. We must create a harmonius relationship between all the
students. If it is possible, it would be still great to make them see each
other as siblings. Only in this way they are going to take care each other. To
avoid problems with activities, it is necessary to have a fallback plan because
if an actvity did not work, we would have another one to teach the children. We
must have a lesson plan as we have seen in the previous classes to avoid that
an activity takes too long. With a lesson plan we can have under control
the time that an activity would take too long to develop it. If had extra time,
i would not steal children´s time because there is a set time and we must
respect it. Children need to go out of the classrooms and enojoy their lovely
early age, but if for any reason i had to continue with the class, we can use
our emergency activities that go with the class without changing the topic or at
least adapt it to the class.
b) Would you follow any of
the tips presented on chapter 8? Do you think the tips would work for you?
Explain
Of course i would follow all the tips presented on
chapter 8 because planning our work makes our life easier because we are not
going to face problems like the mentions above. The activities would take so
long because we would have our work planned. As i said before planning our wok
saves us time so that we can give a class with more experience. Having planned
our class can give us more confidence at the class time. This confidence is not
only good for teacher but for students because they are going to receive a
better class. Probably more explained, and only in this way the children would
grasp perfectly what we want to convey. Furthermore, having plan our work
brings a bunch of perks while we are in the classroom. We can just sit back and
observe what´s going on instead of planning the next activity in our head as i
said before it saves us time. Another advantage we can find is that planning
our work allows us to use more of our energy and enthusiasm to enjoy what we
are doing instead of worrying about what to do next, or looking at the page of
the book. Finally, we can put into practice the long term planning which is pretty
useful since we can find support in the parents because we can mention them
what we want to convey the children. They can help the children to get
interested in the topic we want to give them, or we can ask the parents about
what topics the kids are interested to make the class still more interested for
the children.
